Attaining Attributes of a Successful Counselor

Imagine your thoughts filled with the emotions of ten people, not to mention your own struggles, worries and problems. This is a small preview to what counselors must deal with. Every day, counselors must remain strong for the people they guide and mentor. They help carry the burden of suffering people, and attempt to get them through whatever is on their mind. Counseling is a job that requires maturity, patience and understanding.

Being a counselor is a job that requires hard earned characteristics such as patience and understanding. I am participating in tHt, and through this program and club, I can enhance attributes important to counseling. The trait of patience is extremely important because counselors deal with other's issues constantly. Also, the quality of understanding is key to counseling. If counselors don't have understanding, the goal of guidance and attentive support can not be gained. Another attribute important to counseling is maturity. Maturity must be evident in any counselor because counselors must  know how to handle various situations, no matter what the price.

I try to increase these various characteristics and personalities in my life to prepare me for becoming a counselor. To guide others, the leader must know the way to go him or herself. Just like this, counselors must know a smart path to take so they can lead others in the same way. To attain the attributes necessary to become a counselor, I have been putting my self in situations that will mold me to become a good counselor. These situations include participating in teens Helping teens, the Community Service Club, and overall attempting to hold my tongue and appreciate listening to others.

By attaining these characteristics, my goal of becoming a counselor will be more reachable and I will be able to be successful. Although counseling is a difficult job, I believe I can become successful by following my dream to guide and direct others to live for a bright future.
